Genre Research: Horror & Drama
This genre PowerPoint displays the many aspects that make up a horror movie. Horror movies contain many different features that you usually don't see in other movies. For example, they contain elements such as blood, jump scares, possessions, monsters, etc. Those are things that you would not typically see in any of the other genres. The common camera angles you would see are close-ups, low angles, and hand-held. As far as movements, there are many tilts, tracking, pans, fade-outs and zooms. The one aspect of horror movies that stands out the most is probably mise-en-scene. The costumes, makeup, setting, etc are usually displayed in a scary manner which is what distinguishes it. Horror movies also contain different sounds like loud bangs, screaming, crying, sudden and unpredictable frequency. Some examples of recent popular horror movies are: It, The Nun, Us, Anabelle
This next PowerPoint displays the genre drama. Drama is different from others mainly because of their storylines. The storyline in drama movies usually involve an argument or a big problem. Characters usually have many problems and typically there's a resolution in the end. Drama's contain many different camera angles including: mid-shots, canted angles, master shots, pans, tilts, zoom, etc. Some scenes in dramas are fast paced depending on how intense a scene may be. There's also crosscutting, eyeline match, shot/reverse shot and much more but those are some of the main ones you would see. When it comes to sound there's obviously a lot of dialogue but there is also ambient sound, diegetic sound, and voiceovers. The mise-en-scene in dramas is usually not too dramatic depending on what the movie is about. Half of the time you might see remarkable makeup and costumes but a lot of times, characters usually dress normal. Lastly, dramas have both high key and low key lighting in them and it just depends on what is happening in the scene, what kind of lighting it will have. Some examples of dramas movies are: All the bright places, One night in Miami, After, me before you, etc.
