Title Research: Joker (2019)


1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? 

The opening scene starts with an enpye catching name of the studio that produced Joker (2019). The Warner Bros. Pictures was the studio who produced the movie. In the first three minutes of the movie, the title of the movie was displayed in bold faced letters covering the screen. The opening sequence did not include the various producers, supervisors, the writer, etc. 


2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

The image that is prioritized in the opening sequence is the mask that Arthur paints on his face. This is in order to feel a connection with the world around him. 


3. What connotations do these images carry?

The connotations gives off the feeling of eeriness and suspense. Throughout the day, Arthur wears two masks. For his job, he paints a mask on his face to be a clown to give entertainment to other people. His job of a clown ultimately failed. His other mask is a disguise to help him feel like he belongs in the world around him. This is because he feels like he has been disregarded by society. Due to his past mentally scarring experiences, he slowly becomes a mad man. This is how he became known as Joker.


4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

At the start of the movie, the elements of thriller movie has already been displayed. The tone of the movie has been established with the use of low-key lighting., which creates a suspenseful atmosphere. The scene of Arthur, the Joker, forcing expressions on his face can be unsettling. It indicates on how he is slowly losing his insanity. 


5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The strategies that are used to target its audience are scenes that captures the audience’s attention. Also, giving them the feelings of suspense and anxiety.
