Genre Research: Thriller

In this Genre research PowerPoint, I researched many different aspects of thriller films. I have explained the many common features that are seen in thriller movies. Areas such as camera angles, lighting and sound were displayed and the common use of it in thrillers. I have also provided example of the specific term being used in a thriller movie. For example, I displayed an image of three-point lighting with an image from the thriller movie "Get Out".

To continue, I started off with the lighting aspect of thriller movies. One of the most common lighting is low-key lighting which is a sort of dark lighting. Another lighting that is often seen in thrillers is three-point lighting. This type of lighting comes from three different directions in order to present a sense of depth in the frame. Thrillers movies include many different lighting but these to are the most common ones that are seen.

Furthermore, the PowerPoint displays a series of camera angles and shots from thriller movies. Canted angles and high angles are usually used. The canted angle is where the camera position is tilted and therefore, recorded in a slanted direction. High angles are when the camera looks down causing the subject to look insignificant. As far as shots, there are many common ones you would normally see a thriller film such as pan, tilt, track, hand-held and zoom. Pans are used to follow a moving subject or scan a scene which is important when displaying a setting or following a character. Tilt is pivoting the camera vertically and track moving the camera away from the subject. Then there's hand-held which is pretty self-explanatory and zoom which gives an illusion to a certain subject.

All in all, like any other movie there are costumes, makeup, multiple settings, etc. Each of those factors are displayed in this PowerPoint as well as, a variety of different sounds. I have also explained the different elements of thriller and those that appeal to me. Overall, a lot of work is put into the filming process of  a thriller movie that makes it stand out from any other genre and, that is what this PowerPoint presents.
